Oksana Akulova
Journalist and laureate of the Kazakhstan Union of Journalists Award.
Oksana has been working in journalism for 20 years, focusing on social issues, with a particular emphasis on healthcare. She has a passion for discovering fascinating individuals and sharing their compelling stories.
She is the creator and author of several longreads for the online magazine Vlast:
"Waiting List", about organ transplantation in Kazakhstan;
"The Matter of Life and Death", about severe diagnoses and palliative care;
Co-author of the project "The Vaccine: What You Wanted to Know About Vaccination But Were Afraid to Ask."
She is also a co-author of the film "Waiting List," created in collaboration with Kanat Beisekeyev and Kairat Nurmukambetov.
A laureate of the Union of Journalists Award for a series of publications about Almaty’s underage prisoners of fascism. Their memories formed the basis of the book "It Still Hurts…"
