Earthquakes have become more frequent in Almaty in recent years. Last year, for example, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake forced many residents to leave their homes and run into the street. Even now, tremors of magnitude 2–3 continue in the suburbs. The World Bank warns that earthquakes will become more frequent in the coming years. This worries entrepreneurs concerned about the safety of their businesses and residents afraid for their homes. Against this background, people are increasingly asking: "When will insurance become mandatory?" and "Which insurance model will work best?" We analysed the seismic situation in the Almaty region and possible insurance models to suggest ways forward.
