Kazakhstan produces over 10 million raw hides annually, yet only about 3% of them are processed domestically. According to some sources, the six leather-processing plants currently operating in the country meet only about 20% of domestic demand. We export raw materials at low prices and then purchase finished clothing made from the same leather at high prices from abroad.
