A Journey into the World of Autism: One Day in the Life of 5-Year-Old Zhanibek

Author: Tursynbek Bashar
Mentor: Zhanibek Nurysh

Over the past four years, the number of children diagnosed with autism in Kazakhstan has tripled. President Tokayev has also noted the growing number of children with special needs in the country and has instructed that the number of specialized centers be increased. A new draft law in this field is expected by the end of the year.

This documentary film offers an intimate look into the everyday life of children with autism, told through the daily routine of five-year-old Zhanibek. The project seeks to break down stereotypes surrounding autism and highlights the lack of adequate support for such children.

Through a poetic monologue, the author conveys the child’s inner world, drawing comparisons between international best practices and Kazakhstani centers.
