What is the state of civil society in western Kazakhstan? Tilshinews.kz analysed developments in Aktobe, Atyrau, and Mangystau regions. In Aktobe, the civil sector faces many challenges. Unlike neighbouring regions, there is little progress. The generational continuity appears to be breaking. Unfortunately, large gatherings such as Civil Forums tend to focus more on internal conflicts and financial issues rather than addressing real social problems. This became evident in conversations with active players in the sector.
Social media shows that civil society in Atyrau and Mangystau — also known as the third sector — is far more dynamic. Their projects are more creative, and representatives of NGOs appear to act more effectively.
