In 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan reported that 71.3% of roads in the West Kazakhstan Region were in need of repair. Indeed, the roads in the region cannot withstand heavy loads and rank among the lowest in quality compared to other regions of Kazakhstan. To improve the situation, Akimat of the West Kazakhstan Region is allocating significant funds for road construction. For example, in 2024, 34.8 billion tenge were allocated for the repair of regional and district roads. With this funding, 250.8 km of roads were repaired.  Of these, 41.5 km underwent reconstruction, 103.8 km underwent overhaul, and the remaining section underwent routine maintenance.

We spoke to several experts involved in road construction who regularly comment on the condition of the road network. One expert noted that to build high-quality roads in the West Kazakhstan Region, it is essential to establish local production of construction materials such as bitumen and cement. Another expert emphasized the importance of proper selection and training of specialists in road construction.

And what do activists say? How can the spending of funds allocated for road construction be monitored? One can learn more about this in the full article at the link below:
