Kyzylorda is one of Kazakhstan’s regions most dependent on water for agriculture. The local farming industry has long relied on water-intensive crops such as rice. However, water levels in the Syr Darya River have declined in recent years, soil salinity has increased, and inefficient irrigation systems have worsened the situation. While the President has called for a twofold increase in productivity, regional authorities are exploring ways to implement water-saving technologies.
One such method is drip irrigation — currently among the most efficient techniques. With this system, water is delivered directly to the plant’s roots in small, controlled amounts, reducing losses through evaporation and seepage.
